Simple Things"If I didn't know any better, I'd be in love with you..." your voice had trembled. The windows were frosted. As I recall the memory, your skin was lightly salted.
I doubt you remember me now. I'm just a voice on the wind, your ears barely catching me before I was gone.
I remember the feel of your skin under my gentle touch. Your lips were soft and full, two rose petals leaning into each others embrace.
You'd sit in the window and look out longingly at the crisp winter scene. The snow coating the windsheild of your beloved shit box car.
You're no longer here, and I'm not there.
Your laugh was like your skin. Soft but rough. Your smile was rare and perfect.
You don't remember me, but I remember you, and I will hold on. Hold on to the simple things.

an Act of godShe sat on the floor next to the window
he slept in a bed
on the other side of the room.

How lovely it is, she thought,
to see the flowers that bloom
by the gentle caress
of the glow of the moon.

and she looked to him
to see if she could spot the flowers
that grew from his soul.
the ones she had planted
years ago.

But soundly he slept,
and she did not want to wake him
but rather keep a watchful eye
for a tornado
those flowers
or an act of god.

There’s such an empty space
when you’re gone.”

so I turned to see that the flowers
had bloomed
and everything in my soul
had

I would like waking up to mornings
with your body beside mine,
our legs intertwined
like roots which delve into the earth—
grounding, anchoring, strengthening—
binding two halves as one whole.

the morning breeze carrying soft murmurs
which slip from lovers' lips—
sibilant sighs of contentment
ebbing and flowing with the soughing wind,
that empyrean breath of the sky
whose shifts stir shadows into being
and play dawn's first light across gold-tinged skin.

nature's rhythms at work in the room;
inhales, exhales,
our heartbeats in sync,
steadfast and sure as the changes in the tide
and the metamorphosing moon.

I would like waking to you by my side,
your flesh as my flesh,
our lungs sharing breaths…

I would like waking to you.
